Brief Description: We will develop a risk management plan that will include several important pieces of information.

Action Plan: 1) You will choose a facility (or event) in which you will develop a risk management plan (1st Draft). There is no standard in the industry on what this looks like. Format, content, detail, and components will be different for each of you, dependent on your facility or event. The key to this assignment is finding a facility or event that you are somewhat familiar with and/or have access to (VERY IMPORTANT FOR ASSIGNMENT #7). When you turn in Assignment #6 make sure to include the actual facility name and location, its purpose, size, scope, any pertinent information regarding governance (who owns it), or anything else you want to include.

2) Complete at least one component of a Risk Management Plan

Example components of a Risk Management Plan: Crisis Management Plan Communications and Media Plan Emergency Management Plan* Special Needs Planning (Tornado Plan) Mitigation Plan Equipment Needs Plan Staff Training Plans Implementation Plan Recovery Plan

More Instructions: A risk management plan is a comprehensive document. It lays out every measure an organization takes on a continuing basis to prevent accidents, injuries, or death resulting from internal factors. It also contains rehearsed scenarios for the prevention or reduction of injuries resulting from unplanned external events.

It is a plan that involves all employees and volunteers, at all levels, as well as external emergency personnel. Nobody can ignore the plan's importance and all may have a role in the development, execution, rehearsal, and evaluation of the plan. This includes owners, general managers, maintenance workers, ushers, and the unpaid volunteers. Most plans must include external players such as emergency medical, fire/rescue personnel, and police.

How do we plan for everything? We don't! We plan using an "all-hazards" approach, which included thinkable/unthinkable and preventable/unpreventable incidents. This plan needs to be scalable, concise, and specific to your facility (or event). Some incidents we can predict. For these (lightening in the south), we will plan in more detail. Only you know what specific incidents need to be addressed.

This first assignment requires you to make an attempt at a risk management plan component. A first Draft! Many of these components (*EMP) we are somewhat familiar with and they are widely distributed on the internet and in athletic manuals/books. This is a messy assignment. There is no format, there is no right or wrong information to include or exclude. You are the one that controls the content. The majority of what you are being graded on is the synthesis of a working/functional plan or product.  Feel free to use any examples that you might find on the internet. Make sure in a "reference" page, you let me know where you got the information and a direct link for all three assignments.
