Biology Discussion

A text by Alters & Alters (2006) contains the following:

"Scientists argue that global warming is being caused by the release of large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere traps heat close to the Earth, much like glass traps heat inside a greenhouse. "

Let's do something a little different this week. Enzymes, photosynthesis, and cellular respiration -- necessary topics, but we can't discuss a whole whole lot by just talking over the processes. I thought we'd get a little more applicable with it and dig into global warming.

If you haven't visited the Science Daily website, it's a good one to check out just to keep up with what is going on in science.

Here's the link -- Science Daily. Do some searching and let's see what information you can find on what's being looked at in terms of photosynthesis, respiration, and global warming. You may come across what seems to be obscure info -- bring it to the table. Let's get some discussion going and maybe by the end of the week we'll have a better idea if we need to trade in our car for a horse, or if we can keep on driving! Do notice that when you select an article, related articles are provided. This may lead in a neat direction. Be sure to relate to photosynthesis and/or respiration, AND global warming --- not JUST global warming, but how it may impact (positive or negative) these 2 processes.

Requirements:

1. Do not just copy and direct quote from the Science Daily site.

2. When you do use a Science Daily article, provide the reference for the article being reviewed (found at the bottom of the summary).

3. Stick to Science Daily for this assignment -- we'll leave Wikipedia out of it.

4. Ensure that your article of choice has something to do with photosynthesis OR cellular respiration AND global warming. Just global warming or just photosynthesis is not meeting the requirements.

5. Make a post of your own and then be sure to reply to a classmate.
