Avon Products Inc., the world's largest direct seller of beauty and related personal care products, sold to women in 137 countries via three million independent sales representatives who generated approximately $5.1 billion in annual revenues. Upon reviewing the financial statistics of Avon, Jung realized that not only had earnings risen in the low-single digits in the past few years, but also more disturbingly, the growth rate had shrunk during the same time.
