Assignment

Your boss in the PR department has asked that your 3rd and final company report to be in the form of a narrative that should be 3 to 5 pages in length. The format will be in the form of a playscript found on the article "Strategy Tools for a Shifting Landscape" that was posted on blackboard. Your boss has asked you to continue your creative flair on this and has asked you to organize the playscript as follows:

Act 1: Define your company'sindustry and the current external/internal playscript that exits today.

Who are the main cast of characters in your company's industry and what is their role? (Consider customers, competitors, suppliers, regulators and others)

What are the rules or norms that link the characters?

What is your company's plot? What allows the company to add value and hold on to it?

What are the motivations of the other characters? Who does what? How does that affect who generates and retains value?

Has the plot changed recently and why?

Act 2: Reinvent your firm's strategy so that the plot favors your company.

What would be the ideal playscript for your firm?

What role could your firm play that no one has taken yet?

How would a new perspective on customers' needs create opportunities for your company?

What other options do you have for creating and capturing value? Could the company profit from a merger or acquisition? Divestiture or Spin-off?

What elements of the plot could your company influence?

How could you use the others' motivation to improve your company's position?

What new characters or roles could help your company create or capture value?

Is a better story being told elsewhere? Is the company in the right business?

Act 3: Anticipating the future to ensure the new playscript will stand the test of time.

How are customers' needs evolving?

How will customers' needs affect the future value of the company?

How will your company retain and create value in the future?

How can your company keep value from migrating to the other characters?

How will the other characters react to your company's playscript? How should the company protect its' new playscritpt from this?

What relationships or alliances should the company build that will reinforce the success of the new playscript now and in the future?
