Please follow these instructions to the letter to create an accurate written assignment.

Assignment Guidelines:

For this assignment, you will choose one of the regions we have discussed this semester. Create an argument paper discussing the way that invasions have shaped the development of that civilization. Examples would be Rome and the Germanic invasions, Britain and the Viking invasions, India and the Muslim conquests, China and the Mongol invasions, etc. There are numerous other examples you can choose from as well. Look at how the movements of these groups, their attacks, settlement, and eventual conquest shaped the development of the region. How did they influence the society, economy, religion, politics, and military of the region? Your paper should be two to three double spaced pages. You must use a minimum of three scholarly sources. Be sure to cite all information from your sources.

To Create a Successful Paper:

You must choose strong academic sources. Do not rely on websites affiliated with television stations, secondary schools, or other non-academic sources. Instead choose books written by experts in the field, academic journal articles, or websites affiliated with archives or universities. For any websites check who wrote it, the accuracy of the information, and the affiliations of the website. Never trust that the site is accurate until you verify it.

Be sure to address all of the points in the assignment instructions.

Cite all information from your sources, not just direct quotes.

Technical and Formatting Requirements:

These guidelines must be followed completely in order for a paper to be complete. A Short Paper Assignment allows you, early in the course, to demonstrate your research skills to your instructor and to receive feedback that will benefit you when you write your research paper. With this assignment, you will learn how to do proper and adequate research and write a short paper and prepare you for writing a research paper.

This short paper is at least three double-spaced pages of text (Times New Roman, font size 12) and you must consult a minimum of three academically credible sources. Bibliographies and citations will be in the Chicago Manual of Style format.

The short paper needs to be turned in through the assignment section for grading. If you use any of the information from your sources word-for-word, you must cite the source by using endnotes or footnotes. If you read the information and write it in your own words and it is not common knowledge, then you must cite the source because you are paraphrasing someone's information.

The short paper must include a cover page with your name, course number and course title, instructor's name, and date. You must also include a bibliography at the end of your paper. While composing your paper, use proper English. Do not use abbreviations, contractions, passive voice, or first/ second person (I, you, we, our, etc.). Before submitting your paper, check your grammar and use spell check. Remember, the way you talk is not the way you write a paper.
