Floor activity

Students sit in a circle

Pass the ball to a different student at the time and ask the student how is he/she?

Art craft activity, students are asked to color and decorate a cup cake and glue the number corresponding to their age with diverse materials.

In addition, students will discuss in groups to solve the math problems they are to represent.

Lesson Sequence:

Decorated the class with multiple visual aids illustrating diverse math concepts.
Arrange class for students to work in groups of four.
Each group is provided with four different books about numbers.
Provide students with diverse objects such as blocks, abacus, and diverse counting objects.

Activate prior knowledge presenting students with some questions related to adding or subtracting.

Review vocabulary words.

Model to each group how to solve an arithmetical problem using the different objects provided and recording their answers in a piece of paper.

The teacher asks the class to help her solve problems on the board prior to working in groups.

Each group is provided with flashcards for problems to be solved.

The flashcards are placed in the middle of the table for all students to solve the problem.

Students represent the problem using material from the container and create the numerical representation to be presented to the teacher.

Answers are reviewed as a class and each group provides the answer to their questions to the class.

Students are encouraged to read as a group some of the provided books.

Assessment is based on class observations, participation, work group and answers to the problems.

1) Through your practicum/field experience, select one lesson plan from each of three different content areas that either of your mentor teachers will be teaching to their class. Address the following:

a) At least one lesson must be in birth PK age range.
b) At least one lesson must be for grades K-3.
c) The third lesson plan can be for any age, birth-grade 3.
d) Analyze the plans and hypothesize the teacher's teaching philosophies. Look for the components of effective lesson planning.

2) Observe the teacher teaching from the lesson plans you chose and analyzed.

3) Write a 500-word summary in which you share your philosophical analysis and the accuracy of your hypotheses. Support your hypotheses with examples from the lessons.

4) APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

5) When submitting this assignment, attach copies of the teacher's lesson plans you analyzed, along with your notes.
