1. Throughout the years, the possibility of effective treatment for those suffering from Post-traumatic stress disorder has been doubted. However, several studies have shown that trauma-focused psychological treatments for both chronic, and acute PTSD have been successful. Jonathan Bisson and Martin Andrew (2007) provided a brief overview of the data presented in their study maintaining that, "there is emerging evidence that targeted trauma-focused interventions are effective for individuals with PTSD symptoms" (p. 402). They continue to highlight the success of the studies by specifying, "the optimal way of detecting and treating most people may be to educate those who are most likely to be in contact with them about the recognition of problematic responses. " I found this information to relate to my thesis because it is important to understand the advances that have been made with not only treating, but also diagnosing PTSD. However, early detection is key. By educating individuals who can assist with diagnosis this disorder earlier, rather than later, and presenting evidence that treatment has been successful, can provide hope for those that present PTSD after a traumatic event.

2. The success of treatment for those diagnosed with PTSD has been questioned in the past. However, several studies have shown that there are treatment methods that have been effective for those suffering from chronic, and acute PTSD. In their article, Jonathan Bisson and Martin Andrew (2007) provide optimism for those suffering from PTSD by concluding their study declaring that targeted trauma-focused interventions have been a successful treatment for those with PTSD (p. 402). Additionally, they expressed how educating individuals to properly recognize the symptoms of PTSD can greatly assist with one's treatment, as early detection is key in treating and overcoming this disorder (Bisson & Andrew, 2007, p. 402).

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Part 2

As I am doing more research for my paper, I am finding more questions than answer for the Positive Train Control System (PTC). For me this is concerning because the system is meant to improve rail safety. One journal I found discusses possible failures of the system.

As Mark Hartong explains in his discussion of the computer system, Infrastructure failures are a consequence of track failures, such as broken rails, excessive increases in the super elevation of the track or changes in track gauge. Because detection and reporting of these types of infrastructure failures are not functional capabilities of PTC Level 1 system (Hartong, Goel, & Wijesekera, 2011).

This direct quote helps support my thesis as I raise the question about why railroads are delaying installing the system on their networks. It appears that there are many bugs to work out to make the system effective.

If I had to write this same quote in my own words, I would try and keep the main issue of the types of track failures that could happen. For the paraphrase of the same material I would write it like this.

According to the author of "Positive Train Control (PTC) failure modes", many different failures of the track condition will pose a problem for the PTC computer system. For example, broken rails, or tracks that moved out of alignment, will not be picked up by the PTC system and could lead to an accident as the system is not capable of monitoring these scenarios (Hartong, Goel, & Wijesekera, 2011).

The paraphrase, has the same impact of information both share possible reasons for a failure and support reason while railroads are delaying the system.
