Topic Selection and Use of Library Search Techniques

For this assignment, first choose a topic area. You may continue to pursue the topic you began to explore in PSL7020, or you may choose something new. Your topic should, however, relate to your chosen field. PhD learners should reference the PSL PhD All Programs of Research 2017 document for ideas about appropriate topic areas. This document was designed to help guide the topic selection process by providing possible areas of study, theories, and key academic journals in the field. Professional doctorate learners (DPA, DEM, DSW) should reference the Programs of Research for Doctor of Emergency Management document, which provides similar information for your applied fields. Master's-level learners can turn to either of these documents for topic ideas as well. In your final assignment, you will synthesize the findings of a number of research articles and determine how, as a whole, they could inform programming, decision making, and/or future research in this topic area. Keep this in mind as you select the topic.

There are three parts to this assignment:

1. Select your topic (you'll be using this topic throughout the course). Use the Programs of Research documents to help with this as described above. State the topic at the beginning of the assignment.

2. Locate eight articles that are relevant to your topic using the Capella library databases.

• Find two articles using subject searching-describe this technique and how you used it.
• Find two articles using a cited references search-describe this technique and how you used it.
• Find two articles using Google Scholar-describe this technique and how you used it.
• Find two articles using a methodology search-describe this technique and how you used it.

3. Create a reference list of the articles found, following APA style and formatting.

Do not just select the first articles that you find; evaluate whether or not they will strengthen your literature review on your topic. Use only current (from within the past 5-7 years), peer-reviewed articles for this assignment.

Assignment Requirements

• Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
• APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
• Number of resources: Include a minimum of 8 resources.
• Length of paper: Approximately 2 typed, double-spaced pages.

Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
