This assignment will require the preparation of a formal proposal. For those students taking PRJ701/702 concurrently this proposal may be a refinement of the proposal already submitted but will be expected to demonstrate your growing understanding of the research process. If you have already completed your project course your proposal must be for a research project. For other students, this proposal may be the proposal that you eventually submit for your project.(Outcomes 3,4 and 5).

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to put into practice the various activities generally required by the submission of an academic project proposal. These activities may include but are not limited to; initial literature search and review, research question/hypothesis definition, proposed approach and design, ethical considerations and funding implications. The proposal will be targeted at the BIT programme committee and will need to meet their requirements as well as those generally expected for a proposal of this nature.

TASK

Construct a proposal for a project that could be the subject of PRJ701 or PRJ702, to a standard that would be approved by the BIT Programme Academic Committee.

In order to complete this task you will need to make your own decisions about what to include and exclude based on the work we have done in the early part of this course and on the guidelines provided by the PRJ701/702 course handbook. This doesn't mean that you need to slavishly follow the template provided in the handbook, which is designed for both research and development projects as well, only that you need to ensure that you include all the relevant information that is being requested.

In either the background or the introduction part of your proposal, it will be sensible to summarise the ideas from and include references to at least two academic papers that you have found that would be helpful in your project.

It is difficult to provide guidelines as to the required length of the proposal, but I would expect it to be very difficult to do a good job in less than 2500 words.
