Assignment

The purpose of this exercise is to develop skills and experience in researching the role technology plays in the Building Industry, both through Design and Construction.

1. Choose either a Building or a Finn (Architecture, Engineering, General Contractor or Construction Manager, all are acceptable) as a Case Study that has used or is using BIM technology in the design and construction of buildings. Research this Building or Firm to understand how they have used or are using BIM. Sources can be from books, journals or lectures (Hint, you will likely need multiple references).

2. Research and Understand how the use of BIM has been an advantage or disadvantage to their project or practice.

3. Understand and Envision the implications for future buildings and the professions that the use of BIM has created.

Analysis Requirements

Discuss BIM using the following criteria and relate each area to the topics below:

1. Describe how BIM has been implemented in this specific Project or Finn.

2. What strategies were used in your Case Study?

3. Why was BIM originally selected for this specific Project or Firm?

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using BIM in this specific Project or Finn?

5. Describe the lessons learned by those involved in the Project or Finn and describe what changes might be needed for future Projects or the future of the Firm.

Required Format

Written portion of the assignment shall be in the following format:

1. 8 -1/2 sx11* paper portrait format

2. One (1) inch border all sides

3. Arial font, 11 point, double-spaced, and type written. Any photographic images or drawings included shall be:

1. Attached as an appendix (end of the document, not mixed with the text) to the written report with no more than two images per page

2. Identify each photograph with titles describing the pertinent part of the photograph and why it has been included.

3. Assign each photograph a figure (fig. 1, etc) designation numbered in sequence and reference it in the written text where appropriate to support your point

4. Cite all sources used in your research.
