Hello, guys. Today my topic of the project is Three Gorges Dam in China which is located in Hubei Province and in the middle of Yangzi River. Form the left pic, That's where the Three Gorges Dam location.

The budget at first to build this dam is about 57 billion yuan which equals around $8.35 billion. However, the total cost is about 254.2 billion yuan which is around $37.23billion. There are about 184.9 billion yuan for purchasing infrastructure,like materials, power generators. And also using 69.3 billion yuan for finding new homes for people whose towns and villages were flooded.Most part are from the Gov't, but some companies and banks from Canada, France and German had financed the dam.

There are four purpose for building this dam which are flood control, power generation, navigation and tourism.

1. Flood Control: it has a flood capacity of 22.15 billion cubic meters which can protect 15 million people and 1.5 million acres of farmland.

2. Power Generation: produce 84.6 billion kilowatt hours of clean energy annually.

3. Navigation: Ships can travel from Chongqing to Shanghai. Increase river shipping from 10 million to 100 million tonnes annually. It also can reduce the transportation cost between 30% and 37%.

4. Tourism: Free tickets in 2014. In 2015, it had around 2 million tourists and had $2.3 billion incomes.

Schedule

1. In 1992, the Gov't approved the construction of "the Three Gorges Project on the resolution".
2. In 1994, The commencement ceremony of the Three Gorges Project is held in the dam area.
3. In 2002, the body part of the Dam completed
4. During 2003-2004, power generations connected to the grids and begun to generate electricity.
5. In 2006, the Three Gorges Dam is primarily completed.

Quality:

1. (2.3 kilometers) long and (185 meters) tall-five times larger than the U.S.'s Hoover Dam.

2. the world's largest capacity hydroelectric power station with 34 generators: 32 main generators with a capacity of 700 MW, and two plant power generators with capacity of 50 MW, making a total capacity of 22,500 MW.

3. 2 ship locks and each has 5 stages with transit time for 4 hours. Max vessel size is 10,100 tons.

Stakeholder's Concerns: not all of people agreed with this project because of the environment, social, economic and security issues.

1. The 1998 China Floods.
2. The 2008 Sichuan earthquake, measured at 8.0 Ms.

These two disasters caused a large number of people died and injured and has a huge impact on the society. Some experts thinks these disasters relate to three Gorges Dam.

3. Displace 1.3 million-1.9 million people.

Interesting facts

1. The first plan of dam was introduced by Sun Wen in 1919 and began work on plans by Nationalist government in 1932. Due the Second World War and civil war, this project failed.

2. After the 1949 Communist takeover, this project was proposed. However, because of the economic reason, a similar project called Gezhouba Dam was built first which is more smaller.

3. During 1980s, the idea of a dam remerged and was approved until 1992. However, there are still some engineers against this project.
