Assignment

Taking as your starting point the report of the Institute of Medicine (2003) concerning the nature of electronic health records (EHRs) and EHR systems, their anticipated benefits, their functionals, their primary and secondary uses as well as the challenges and obstacles that Must be addressed, write an essay entitled "The Future of EHR Systems is Open Source". You may agree or disagree with the title - the main point is to make a case and support your argument, thereby showing your understanding of the issues involved. You can familiarise yourself with the concept of Open Source software and distinguish it from related terms such as FOSS, Open Standards and Open Data by perusing many reliable resources on the web, including for example, Opensource.com (2017).

Constraints:
- Submissions must be between 1200 and 1500 words.
- Between 5 and 8 good quality references must be cited in support of your argument (e.g. journal papers and authoritative websites)
- References must be formatted correctly according to the UL Harvard style
- As part of the essay, you are expected to define in the text at least 5 specific terms being used.
