Section I: Book Report

I-A. You are to select and read a relatively new ‘trade' book (aka, not a textbook). Your selected book needs to have AT LEAST a copyright date of 2015 or even more recent publication date.

Your book report should start with complete information about this book: title, author(s), publisher and location of publisher, date of publication, and edition number if appropriate. It should also include a brief (one-two paragraph) description of the author(s). You should definitely include your reason(s) for selecting this particular book for this report.

The use of the ‘trade book' designation is used mostly to distinguish this selection from textbooks. There are a number of books about marketing for the general public, and you are free to select one of these recent ones. There are also a number of books about current trends, social media, etc, or about various aspects of marketing that affect our lives, that would be very interesting and suitable for this book report portion. There are some well known authors (Malcolm Gladwell, Seth Godin, etc.) who seem to bring out a best selling book every year or more, that might be interesting for you. You are encouraged to check lists compiled of current books being read by CEOs" or other lists of current bestselling non fiction titles.

I-B. Start your report by providing the relevant information about the book (its title, its author(s), its publisher, its publication date, etc.) Then provide a discussion on why you selected this book, and briefly summarize its contents. Continue this review with your analysis; this is important; describe what you found really beneficial, what was unique (and what was not). You should also discuss what you felt was not useful, at least to you, in this book. Why would you or would you not recommend the book to others? This portion should be 2-4 pages long, double-spaced.

I-C. Conclude with your top five ‘take-aways' from reading this book.
