Read the case, answer the question: This is a great case that takes a sweeping look at the history of Apple and shows that transformation of the company from Apple Computer to Apple Inc.

The iOS storyline is among the most compelling in business and the strategic relationships that were forged to make it possible are arguably one of the best examples of partnering in the history of business.

Often overlooked however, is what the impetus was -not from a design and user experience perspective, but from a business perspective- for Apple Computer to become Apple Inc.

Let's take a look at the part of this case that is pre iOS and see if we can determine why Apple would want to make this change. To that end, please explore the following questions:

1. What were Apple's competitive advantages?

2. Analyze the dynamics of the PC industry at the time of the case. Are these dynamics favorable or problematic for Apple?

3. Has Steve Jobs finally solved Apple's long standing problem with respect to the Macintosh business?
