We have continually researched national issues this term dealing with the Political and Socio-Economic Impact of Gangs. Answer the following question this week and remember to respond to classmates:

Based on one of the national issues involving gangs listed in either text or in the Gang Assessment, discuss the impact on your community if the issue gains media attention. Provide an example from your online research (2006 or newer).

Mondy (2014) mentions social networking in the recruiting section (p. 153) and Chapter 13 discusses disciplinary action (p. 311). Recently, social networking has become much more prevalent recently in many other aspects of employee relations. These social networks may include Facebook, MySpace, Linked In, etc., and their use may impact discipline, selection procedures, promotions, demotions, etc.

There have been several recent court cases involving social networks; two such cases are:

• A discrimination case where a website maintained by employees was used as a forum for racial remarks regarding their co-workers

• A state trooper being disciplined for posting "inappropriate" photos of herself on MySpace (not in uniform, but had identified herself as a trooper)

Research this topic and post your findings regarding how the use of social networks affects employee relations issues in an organization. You may include how organizations use the sites for recruitment and you may include your position on whether the information found on these sites should be "private" and not relevant to the organization that the person works for.
