PART B -CASE STUDY

Southport Education has recently made a business decision to become a Green Business.  As part of this you have been given the role of Environmental Officer at Southport Education.

Your task is to analyse the resources that are currently used at Southport Education.  Below is the resource usage for a three month period (May, June & July 2012).

1. Table the information in an Excel spreadsheet.

2. Select one type of resource from the above list and create at least two different varieties of charts to display the resource usage over the three months to show usage trends.  (For example, line graph, bar chart etc.)

3. Analyse the trends of resource usage over the three month period and make a short comment of one paragraph of 5 - 7 lines about the trends.

4. Recommend at least four strategies to improve and reduce resource usage for each area of energy, water and waste.  (I.e. 4 for energy, 4 for water and 4 for waste)

5. Make a short comment of one paragraph of 5 - 7 lines on your expectations about the resource efficiency improvement strategies you recommended based on their likely effectiveness, cost efficiency and timeframe to implement.

6. Create an official separate 1-page memorandum with the Southport Education logo on it (this can be sourced from Google images) to communicate the resource efficiency improvement strategies you recommended above to the staff at Southport Education.  Include what outcomes you expect, responsibilities that should be assigned and suggestions about how the staff will be able to implement them within their own job roles.

7. Develop a set of procedures for resolving disputes that any staff may have relating to the resource efficiency improvement strategies you recommend be implemented.  Include at least five procedure

PART C- PROJECT

Working with industry is a major part of the strategy for improving the sustainability of our business.  Partnerships such as the Sustainability Compacts and the Sustainability Advantage are not about self-regulation, but about establishing co-operative arrangements that foster business innovation and continual improvement. Part of your project is to develop a workplace sustainability policy and procedures. You can use Imagine education or your own workplace to complete this project.

Layout instructions for Part C:

• The first page of your Environmental Sustainability Report must be a title page including the title of your report, your name, student number and date it will be presented.

• The second page of your Environmental Sustainability Report must be a contents page outlining each section (as per the below inclusions) and the respective page numbers.

• Use the below section headings as headings in your Environmental Sustainability Report.

• Begin each section on a new page.

• Include a header on each page with your name and student number.

• Ensure that each page is numbered.

Your task is to write an Environmental Sustainability Report in which you make recommendations for a sustainability policy in your workplace.  You must follow the layout instructions and include the five sections below in your report:

1. Write the sustainability policy and procedures for this organisation or section of the organisation to ensure improvement in sustainability processes. Include at least 10 procedures.

2. Discuss the methods you will use to communicate your policy to your internal and external stakeholders.

3. Outline the methods you will use to track/monitor continuous improvement in sustainability processes.

4. List and describe the methods you will use to review the success of the sustainability policy and procedures.

5. Provide feedback to key personnel and stakeholders regarding the success or otherwise of the policy. Include discussion of investigations you have undertaken to identify trends that may require remedial action. Identify any aspect of sustainability procedures that may require revision to comply with the organisation's commitment to continuous improvement.
