Objective: Discuss the characteristics and impacts of organizational behavior.

Introduction: The theory of Organizational Behavior (OB) examines the behavior of individuals and groups in a business environment and analyzes the impact of that behavior on job structure, performance, communication, motivation and leadership.

Organizational behavior is evaluated in both the internal and external contexts. Viewing OB from the internal perspective, one believes that job performance and motivation are impacted by individuals' personal experiences and values. From an external perspective the theory posits that employees' work experiences and production are influenced by events and environmental factors external to the employee. The theory of OB is really a combination of the two.

Every business and organization has some form and mix of characteristics that determine how the organization behaves, and ultimately makes decisions. Knowledge of how individuals interact, how norms influence teams, and the structure of an institution helps managers understand how decisions are made and why.

Having a base knowledge of the characteristics and impacts of organizational behavior can help employees and managers navigate through the organization to support an idea for a new product or service. This essay will give you the opportunity to discuss the characteristics and impacts of organizational behavior using a specific business scenario.

Deliverables: The essay for this lesson is required to be a minimum of 750 words that clearly demonstrate your understanding of the activity. Essays should have a clear introduction, thesis statement and conclusion, written in APA format (APAstyle.org). A minimum of three sources must be cited in-text and in the Reference list.

Read the following scenario and questions, then use what you have learned about this lesson's objective to summarize your responses.

You are the human resource manager in charge of organizational behavior with a fairly young company, FutureSecure. The company develops software and is currently working on a security app for schools. There are about 250 diverse employees. There seems to be a common theme in which top management is pushing to release the security app quickly. You know the following conditions exist: the manager of the software engineer team is uncomfortable with the dates; the quality team is already overworked; and the software engineers are spread out in the building, making communication even more difficult.

As an expert in organizational behavior, discuss the characteristics and impacts to the software company's organizational behavior and how they may impact its potential business outcomes.

-What are the foundations of organization behavior at the individual level, in general and as they relate to this scenario?

-What influences of organizational behavior are illustrated at the work group levels, in general and as they relate to this scenario?

-What are the possible impacts of organizational behavior at the institutional level, in general and as they relate to this scenario?
