Assignment

Instructions The objective of this assignment is to emphasize the importance of an organization's culture - its mission, vision and values - while learning how these are translated into organizational actions.

As an extra benefit, you may be able to apply what you've learned to researching prospective employers during your next job search. assigned organization (Boeing):

• Identify a competitor. "Competitor" means another organization in the same industry or line of work; not another organization in the table.

You cannot use another organization on the list.

• Briefly summarize each organization's mission/vision/purpose and values/guiding principles. Organizations will call these by different names.

• Give at least two examples of how each organization has demonstrated their values/guiding principles.

• Discuss the similarities and/or differences in the mission/vision/purpose and values/guiding principles of the organizations.

• Suppose you are the founder of a small technology company. For your assigned organization, which values / guiding principles would you adopt? Why? If you wouldn't adopt any of them, why not?

Potential sources of information: Find the organization's web site and look for: "About us," "Who we are," "Corporate responsibility," "Corporate citizenship," "Sustainability," "Ethics, Corporate culture" or similar.

• Company - Boeing Company

The assignment requirement Points:

• Summaries of mission/vision/purpose and values/guiding principles.

Evaluation Standards:

• Content & Writing Style Since this course supports the undergraduate General Studies requirement for "Literacy and Critical Inquiry," your ability to communicate clearly through language is part of the grading criteria.

Your work will be evaluated on your ability to organize your writing, demonstrate original thought, develop ideas, and apply critical thinking.

• Use appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

• Utilize a writing style that is appropriate for a technical paper. No first-person narrative!

• Write in your own words; do not simply "copy & paste" from your references. This is the #1 area for deducted points because of lack of original thought, not plagiarism. It is not sufficient to simply copy information from a web site - you must provide context and interpretation.

• It goes without saying that you must cite your sources of information in an appropriate format. This is the #2 area for deducted points due to plagiarism - and this is also an Academic Integrity violation.

• Do not cite Wikipedia, or any other encyclopedia, as a reference. You will lose points. Go to the list of References and Further Reading and read the original material.

Requirements Your work must conform to the following format requirements:

• File format: Word document. Other file formats will not be graded.

• Put your name and a page number on every page

• Font requirements: o Title in Times New Roman, size 14 pt, centered

o HEADING IN TIMES NEW ROMAN, SIZE 12 PT, UPPER CASE, LEFT JUSTIFIED

o Text in Times New Roman, size 12 pt, left justified

• Use the Chicago style Author-Date system for your citations.
