For your mini-project this week, we will apply your knowledge of primary and secondary data sources to prepare your literature review based upon the following steps:

Step 1 - Review the basic health of your community.(DC, or MD) Locate information from your local city or county health department, state and federal agencies (i.e., CDC, NIH), and/or vital records from the United States Census Bureau.

Step 2 - Based on your preliminary search, identify the major health conditions impacting your community and choose one of those conditions as the topic for your assignment.

Step 3 - Locate relevant information related to your topic of choice. Use academic journals and books for scholarly, evidenced-based data related to your topic. Please limit your use of websites, unless they contain evidenced-based information. Websites such as Wikipedia are not acceptable.

Step 4 - Evaluate the content. Once you have identified your data selections, evaluate the content of each source, and decide which articles provide the most accurate, up-to-date information for your topic of choice.

Step 5 - Synthesize your knowledge. Look for trends in the data; analyze the similarities and differences in each source, and identify the core information to include in your literature review. Look for disparities (i.e., higher incidence in African American females, lower prevalence in rural areas), review the data collection methods utilized, and examine the factors that influence health behavior.

Step 6 - Summarize your findings. In a document, discuss the findings related to your topic. In your analysis, be sure to address the Seven Competencies related to Area of Responsibility 1, and infer needs for health education based on your assessment findings.

Your completed literature review should be a minimum of five references. ***Please note that only two of your references can be websites.
