Assignment

Description

Each student should investigate a specific enterprise/company within tourism industries. This investigation may require a library search, an on-line information search, and interviews with professionals in the field. There are two distinct sections of the report: (1) the written report and (2) a virtual slide show presentation and fact sheet. The report and fact sheet needs to be professional and well written. The Industry Report, presentation and fact sheets will be graded on both content, grammar, and the quality of support (i.e., references, interview documentation). Each industry report should include statistical information (Very Important). The common mistake that students made was simply relaying the information from the company. This is not a promotional report for the specific enterprise. So you need to analyze the company based on the third person's perspective.

Each topic or specific enterprise/company must be approved in advance. Research conducted without prior approval will result in a failing grade.

Follow the APA style of the document (appropriate headings and subheadings for each content, references, a front page, Times New Roman, 12 font size, single/double space, and margins [top, bottom, right and left] of 1 inch, etc - see syllabus for detailed guideline). When students use an essay format I often have a difficult time determining if the response adequately addresses each content. Please use appropriate titles, headings, or subheadings for each item in the content.

The 5 to 7 page Written Report should strive to answer three major questions:

• What is the status of the overall industry in the United States?(statistics)

• What are the "keys to success" for a typical enterprise/company within the respective industry?

• What is your opinion of the overall industry's future?

Depending on the enterprise/industry selected the specific questions may vary.

• Identify an enterprise/company within the respective overall industry that you have investigated for this report. - Provide a brief explanation about the enterprise/company and the financial information.

• Identify the name, location(address), and manager of the local representative enterprise/company that you visited as integral part of this report?

• What is the "mission statement" for a specific enterprise/company within the industry? and analyze the mission statement.

• What type of products/services are they delivering? Give a brief description.

• List and briefly describe what "differentiates" this business from other businesses within the overall industry.

• What is the legal form (type) for the business organization you visited? (e.g., Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, etc)

• How is the business/enterprise addressing trends or changes in the economy that may impact their economic success?

• What are the employment opportunities and status for full-time staff and management within the overall industry? (i.e., Growth opportunities? Current job listings/salary ranges/number of job availability on Monster.com, Department of Labor, etc?)

• Indicate all direct quotes with appropriate citations and quotation marks. Limit direct quotes to 4 lines or no more than 40 words. Do not copy and paste your report from the work of others without appropriate credit to the original author. All papers will be reviewed utilizing Turn-it In software to ensure the authorship of the work is original to the student. "This assignment is not an exercise in copying research facts from the Internet!" Submissions that evidence excessive copying of work will result in a zero for this component of the course. In addition, please avoid Wikipedia for your reference.

• References are required for this report (Formatted using APA stylebook : The report should be based on a minimum of 10 current references (at least 7 or 8 out of 10 should include academic journals, books, trade journals, and other credible and trusted sources.

• Editing/Formatting/Professional.
