All strategic plans begin with a mission statement and vision statement. In a 1-2 page paper, write your mission statement and vision statement for your population and the health plan you anticipate developing to address the health needs of that population. After each, briefly (in 1-2 paragraphs) explain your reasoning for developing the mission and vision statements. Be sure to format your paper per APA standards and be sure to use in-text citations where necessary. Also, be sure to include a reference page when required.

Strategic planning is used by business and organizations alike to plan for the long term. In this course, students will develop a strategic plan to improve the health for a defined population. This may be the people in your community or patients at your healthcare organization. Beginning in Module 02 when you select and identify your population, you will develop a strategic plan to meet the unique needs of your population. The weekly written assignments through Module 08 will comprise the elements of the strategic plan and you will compile the different elements into your final plan in Module 10 based on the feedback from your instructor.

What will we do?
Who will we do it for?
How will we do what we want to do?

Choice of population

The choice of the population that requires a health program is the children under 13 years of age in my community. The children in the neighborhood have been experiencing several cases of dental and oral health related problem. From the facility I am currently working, there have been over 30 monthly cases of an oral health problems involving children that has been reported. Most of these health cases have arisen out of sheer neglect oral hygiene such as brushing teeth daily, the types of foods eaten as well as general poor hygiene and sanitation practices. It will be important to train these children as preventive measures.

The program aims at sensitizing the children and their parents on the importance of oral hygiene and how it contributes to their wellbeing. The sensitization program will be crucial as it will not only create oral health awareness in the community but will also equip the children and the entire community with the right skills and techniques to sustain good oral hygiene. These skills and techniques will become an integral part of their hygiene in their entire lives.

To achieve this campaign several players have to come into collaboration. The local government officials will play a key role in providing the needed infrastructure to reach the community. The will also provide important resources such as posters and oral medications that we can give the community. The campaigns can be held in the community centers. The program will include a mixture of playful activities, oral checkups, and sensitization workshops involving the children and their parents.
