Assignment

1) speech

I need a speech drafts for speeche. Please give it to me in words, no recording. I need to read it word by word. So please image you are making speech and write down down all you want to say.

First, watch the Ted Talk by Sherry Turkle: Connected, But Alone?

Next, review the delivery focus area for this lesson, which is found in the Instruction section.

Finally, record a 1- to 2-minute video eJournal to reflect on the information in this lesson. Include the following in your eJournal:

• Provide one brief opinion, impression, or fact you found interesting, or something you did not like about the Ted Talk.

• Answer the question: How does this Ted Talk relate to the material covered Lesson 3 and Chapters 6, 7, and 8 in the textbook? You must use key terms from the textbook to receive credit for the eJournal.

• Reflect on how you will incorporate this information into your own life.

• Specific to this lesson: Reflecting on your use of the six steps for selecting your speech topic, how did you decide on your purpose statement?

• Delivery Focus Area: Your instructor will be evaluating you specifically on the following criteria:

o Rate and Pace: See Lesson 1 for specific details.
o Posture:See Lesson 2 for specific details.
o Pitch and Inflection: Remember that pitch is the highness or lowness of a speaker's voice, and inflection is the pattern of change in a person's pitch level while speaking. Any sort of repetition within pitch or inflection can cause a monotonous tone that can bore or distract your audience.

Hint: Make sure your pitch does not go up at the end of your sentences. As if you were asking a question? Make sure that you use punctuation in your speeches. It is important that you do so because, if you don't, then your speaking will seem like one long run-on sentence and distract your audience. Make sure you do not start sentences the same way each time as that can be redundant as well.

2) Paper

Following Christy's lead (above), use the six-step process of topic selection to develop a speech topic.

• Brainstorm a list of potential topics.
• Select your topic.
• Focus or narrow the subject you selected.
• Determine your general purpose: to inform, persuade, or entertain.
• Formulate your specific purpose.
• Word your thesis statement.

Develop a speech topic using these six steps. Make sure that you clearly indicate all six steps in your answer.

You can define your hypothetical audience for any situation you want but make sure that, whatever your topic is, it is a) appropriate to your hypothetical audience (and real audience), and b) you are interested/passionate about the topic!
