Assignment

1) Observe a whole group or small group reading lesson in your birth PK practicum classroom and one in a K 3 classroom. a) Write a 250-word summary and analysis of the effectiveness of each lesson.

b) Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

2) Design a whole group or small group reading lesson plan for PK students and one for K-3 students.

Consider individual differences in ability, culture, and language. Lesson plan templates are available in the Student Success Center.

3) Include the following in your lesson plan:

a) Clear, measurable objectives that align to NAEYC, NSTA, and NCTM standards.

b) Anticipatory set

c) Vocabulary

d) Relevant materials and resources.

e) Differentiation of instruction to address the diverse needs of students. Name the differentiation strategies for the specific diverse groups.

f) Problem solving and inquiry strategies.

g) Realia to help develop language skills.

h) Informal and/or formal assessments that align with objectives.

i) Authentic, formative, and/or summative assessments.

4) APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

5) This lesson plan will be used later in the course and for the completion of the benchmark assessment.
