Purpose of this assignment

This assignment is designed to provide learners with the understanding and skills to manage their activities in the business workplace to improve their effectiveness and efficiency. The overall task comprises two reports, as outlined below.

Scenario

You are newly appointed as a Managing Director of "ABC Company", a Recruitment company. Some of the issues in the ABC Company are as follows:-

Managers blamed for ABC Company's deficits

The report blames poor management. Inadequate leadership and ineffective management are the causes of the worst deficits in the company. The problems have led to reduction of thousands of jobs, close services and delay operations. Further, senior officials had taken their eye "off the ball", relying on short-term fixes to solve growing financial problems. It is crucial that boards and management get the basics right because financial failure is often a reflection of wider organisational failure.

With the above scenario, you are entrusted with the task of advising on changes to be made to the organisation. You are required to develop a number of business processes for ABC Company to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the overall performance of company and provide solutions.

Task 1 (LO 1: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and LO 2: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 plus M1,M2 and D1)

Develop a report as required below.

• After going through the organizational structure and the existing culture in ABC Company, identify all major positions in the departments and draw an organizational chart to support your answer.(LO 1: 1.1)

• List and identify the relationships between different functions/processes and explain the different functions and processes.(LO 1: 1.1)

• List the key aims, objectives and mission of ABC Company and draw a process map for any one of the functions. (LO 1: 1.2)

• Evaluate the elements required to build a quality gateway, which focuses on the output of the process.(LO 1: 1.3)

• Design a plan to promote goals and objectives for ABC Company to ensure plans are consistent with legal, regulatory and ethical requirements. (LO 2: 2.1)

• Write, using SMART objectives, your recommendations relating to the alignment of people and other resources, in an effective and efficient way. (LO 2: 2.2)

• Implement appropriate systems to achieve objectives in the most efficient way, on time, to budget and meeting organisational standards of quality (LO 2: 2.3)

• Carry out work activities meeting the operational plan through effective monitoring and control (LO 2: 2.4)

To achieve M1, the learner must identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions to explain the importance of business processes in delivering outcomes based upon business goals and objectives and be able to develop plans for own area of responsibility to implement operational plans. To achieve M2, the learner must select / design and apply appropriate methods / techniques to explain the importance of business processes in delivering outcomes based upon business goals and objectives and able to develop plans for own area of responsibility to implement operational plans. To achieve D1, learner must use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusions to explain the importance of business processes in delivering outcomes based upon business goals and objectives and able to develop plans for own area of responsibility to implement operational plans.

Task 2 (LO 3: 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 and LO 4: 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, plus M3 and D2, D3)

Develop a report as required below

• Explain the systems required to manage and monitor quality standards of ABC Company.(LO 3: 3.1)

• Demonstrate a quality culture to ensure continuous monitoring, evaluation and development of the process. (LO 3: 3.2)

• Recommend improvements which align with the organisation's objectives and goals and which results in improvements. Highlight the elements of your plan which are going to bring continuous improvement in the system.(LO 3: 3.3)

• Write a brief report on the wider implications of proposed changes within the organisation.(LO 3: 3.4)

• Advice on how to carry out risk assessments as required by legislation, regulation and organisational requirements ensuring appropriate action is taken.(LO 4: 4.1)

• Demonstrate the correct and effective application of the health and safety regulations and legislation applicable in ABC Company. (LO 4: 4.2)

• Carry out a systematic review of organisational health and safety policies and procedures in order to ensure they are effective and compliant.(LO 4: 4.3)

• Advise on how to carry out the practical application of health and safety policies and procedures ABC Company. (LO4: 4.4)

To achieve M3, the learner will to present and communicate appropriate findings and be able to monitor appropriate systems to improve organisational performance and to manage health and safety in the workplace. To achieve D2, learner must show evidence of how take responsibility for managing and organising activities and be able to monitor appropriate systems to improve organisational performance and to manage health and safety in the workplace. To achieve D3, the learner need to apply demonstrate convergent /lateral / creative thinking in relation to monitoring appropriate systems to improve organisational performance and managing health and safety in the workplace.

Evidence checklist

Task 1&2 Prepare a report, which should comply with the word count of 3000 with +/- 10% margin. You may use tables and diagrams to support your report to illustrate the text.
