Assignment: The Constitution
Length: 3-4 pages, double-spaced (Times Roman 12 font with standard 1" margins).
Prepare a three to four-page paper explaining three to five things that you learned or surprised the Constitution all of the Amendments and The Bill of Rights. This paper will require you to do research as you are to demonstrate a working knowledge of these documents. You must use and cite the text book and Course Documents found in the Weeks 1 and 2 Folders in Blackboard. See "Assignment 1 Detail" found in Folder for more information.
Remember that these topics are covered multiple places in your text book. Go to the index to gain further information and sources on this topic.
You will be graded on the following criteria:
Introduction
• Have you clearly stated the three to five things that you learned that surprised you about the Constitution and/or the Bill of Rights?
• Is your introduction interesting?
• Have you described the scope of the paper?
• Have you given an adequate history and definition for each of what surprised you?
Analysis
• Does the paper clearly give a short concise overview of the Constitution, The Amendments and the Bill of Rights? (three to five sentences)
• Do you give three to five things that you learned or that surprised you? Make sure you give adequate explanation of the specific amendment, section, etc.
o Examples (you are not limited to these):
- Freedom of speech
- Bear arm
- Women's rights
- Slavery
- Search and Seizure
- Due process
• Do you give an example of how our individuals rights are protected by these documents?
• Does each of the main points have a citation back to the text book and three other sources with a page number and a direct short quote (ten words or less)?
• Have you cited documents from your own research?
Process, Punctuation and Grammar
• Are all of the words spelled correctly?
• Are the correct words used?
• Is the wording smooth to read?
• Is proper grammar used?
• Does the paper follow APA Guidelines?
• Is the paper interesting?
Conclusion
• Is the conclusion clear?
• Does it connect with the Introduction?
• Does it contain no new information?
• Is it clever and/or interesting?
