ASSIGNMENT: SRKL ELECT RONICS BUSINESS DAT A ANALYSIS

PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to use office automation tools to develop an information system to assist an organisation in this modern business world.

The assignment will test students:

1. Ability to develop Excel spread sheets, and

2. Prepare analysis reports for managers' perusal. At the completion of the assignment students will have:

1. Described basic financial operational data and business processes

2. Acquired skills which will enable them to gain better appreciation of how ICT is employed by users in organisations.

BACKGROUND

SRKL electronics (SRKLE) is a distributor of electrical and electronic goods to 10 small shops in Australia. SRKLE is centrally located in Waterloo, Sydney. The office is above the warehouse. The office is divided into several cubicles from which the administration, sales, service, purchases, and other departments operate. Each department has their own computers and almost all of the business information is stored in Excel Spread Sheets. The way of information exchange generally is by swapping excel spread sheets.

Lalith, the new owner of SRKLE, is very ambitious and wants to increase the number of their customers to 100. You have decided to help Lalith by analysing their business data and provide him with some recommendations. Lalith accepted your offer and supplied you with last years (2014-15) sales spread sheet (SRKLE-salesData.xlsx enclosed with this document). The excel spreadsheet consists of 3 pages; Sales data, sales report, and Questions. Your task is to:

1. Complete the sales page by calculating the total sales, total cost and profit columns.
2. Complete the sales report page and answer the questions in the solution page.

Note that BN105 students have to answer four more questions as noted in the solutions page.

3. Write a professional report addressing Lalith, including

a. Analysis of the questions posed by Lalith in the Excel file.

b. Recommendations to improve the data visibility.

Hint: You may recommend implementation of a new information system, purchasing of additional hardware and software to maintain the existing infrastructure, implementation of new policies, procedures, and employing new personnel. In all, your report needs to be a technical document not one strategizing "How to improve sales?" . Refer to lectures 7 and 8 for some helpful information.
