Nowadays, businesses and home users heavily rely on receiving constant information from technology, such as from the internet and already stored information in their computers as already saved or archived documents.   If something goes wrong with the databases/servers and the information is not accessible, it can become a problem for both businesses and at home users who may be unable to retrieve their information being stored in the cloud or servers. Consequently, the ongoing pressure is increasing on database administrators to assure things run smoothly and without interruptions.  There is a constant necessity for databases monitoring and management to become better and quicker.

The article, "The Future of Database Performance Monitoring: To the Cloud and Beyond", discusses how our world is now driven by the cloud, (which is a network of servers, with each server having different functions in order to run applications and/or deliver a service) and how will database performing monitoring is keeping up, or rather evolving to be up to speed in delivering top performance.   The article explores two current trends which the author, Patrick O'Keeffe, predicts will further motivate the innovation in database monitoring and management.

One of the approaches the author points out is titled in the article as "A Slow but Steady Race to the Cloud" which refers to the possibilities of a need for a hybrid approach within the industry and the idea that slowly but surely organizations will move to a cloud hosted database, which will be able to hold more information yet with that comes higher costs for organizations. The other trend, the author speaks about, reads as, "Automation-Driving Data Democratization and Digital Transformation". This methodology explores the idea that in the future we can expect to see data automation and later on progressing into even the possibility of machine learning.  The reasoning behind this approach is that it is expected, that in the future, there will be a demand for more information to be stored and processed, therefore making it impossible for data centers and/or cloud-based models to be able to be managed by database administrators. Subsequently, the end result as predicted in the article, will be that all data will be managed by technology itself.

Information systems are made up of four key components which are hardware, software, networking, and data. Having secured information is a major concern for consumers in today's digital era. Data is defined by bits of information that is stored within the information system (Pearlson, Saunders, & Galleta, 2016). There have been recent stories in the news reporting hacking of this information stored by companies. NBC in Charlotte North Carolina recently published a story regarding a recent threat targeting Apple customers. There are reports that scammers have been calling Apple customers using fabricated caller id's claiming they are Apple employees and that the unsuspecting consumer's account has been compromised. Consumers are now begining to raise the question "are businesses doing enough to protect consumer data?". Having an information systems strategy in today's day and age is something companies can't go without. How can companies create a strategic plan to deal with such threats posed by hackers? I believe Apple provides adequate security measures but should inform consumers as soon as they discover potential threats to mitigate the risk of being hacked. A well informed consumer is more likely to avoid the tricks of scammers and may even decrease the number of successful hacks that take place.
