In this chapter, you will learn:

This chapter focuses on the basic conventions of the student essay. An essay, like most projects, is written in stages. Academic writing may emphasize revising and editing the rough draft or research more than you are used to. However, it's important to understand that students approach academic writing knowing that it is a chronological process that usually begins with a broad topic.
