Assignment Project - Operations Management
Part 1- Application
Select an organisation that you are familiar with and critically evaluate the following:
Area of Operations -
1. Supply Chain Management
- Provide an overview of the supply chain strategy used in your organisation.
- What criteria is used to select vendors for your organisation?
- Explain how risk is managed in your supply chain?
2. Process improvement
- Construct a Baseline Time Function map for any process within the organisation.
- Analyse and make recommendations on how (based on the time function map) you would improve this process.
3. Quality Management
- Give an overview of how quality is measured in the organisation.
- Identify the different types of benchmarking and conduct a benchmarking exercise for your organisation.
Part 2 - Project Management
You have been appointed to manage a project that requires the construction of a three bedroom house (in an area of your choice). The information that you have received includes:
- Budget R2.5 million
- Time frame - 8 months to complete from start to finish
- Must meet building standards
- Size - 150 m2
- Choice of finishings - granite counter tops, kitchen cupboards, built-in cupboards in all bedrooms. Tiles in kitchen, carpets in lounge, dining room and all bedrooms.
- Single garage.
- Alarm system
- 1.5m fence around property with drive in and pedestrian gates.
- Connection of water and electricity.
- Assumptions: Land has been purchased already.
For this project:
Develop a Project Scope Statement.
Construct a Work Breakdown Structure.
Construct a network diagram (Activity on Node) and identify the critical path.

- Word limit: Approximately 6000 words
- Your assignment should include a Table of Contents page.
- Text: Font: Arial or Times New Roman (12), Spacing: 1.5 lines
- You MUST use theory/literature to support your discussion/observation and opinions. Do not merely extract information from the Case Study.
