Assignment Outcome: After students complete the Mission Statement Assignment they will be able to desribe the exact purpose of an entity.

Purpose of Assignment: Students will summarize in a brief one or two sentence all the entity hopes to accomplish.

Read the description below of a fictitious company (Fairmont Furniture) and create a mission statement for the company.

Tip: Try to use the name of the entity instead of we. Use active verbs instead of is, are, etc. Remember a mission statement is generally one to two sentences. The mission statement should describe the overall purpose of the company it should not tell about company history.

Here is my example:

A.. Description of the entity: The Grafton Photography club is a photography club in Grafton, WV which offers non-profit organizations our services at no cost to them. The club enjoys taking photos and we also enjoy helping our community look more professional with quality photos to represent them. The club has been established since January 12, 2004 and has helped as many as 25 different non-profit organizations to date. The club consists of one member, but is constantly searching for other photography enthusiasts.

B. Mission Statement: The Grafton Photography Club offers services to non-profit organizations who need assistance in preparing materials for publications. The club insists on providing a superior level of photography because pictures develop into whom we are as a club.

Here is your fictitious company. If there is by chance a company with this name, please do not research them or bother the company. The idea is to work on this assignment based on what you know in marketing.

Fairmont Furniture is a small, family owned furniture maker located in the heart of Fairmont, WV at 400 Dalton Ave. They sell high-end handmade furniture such as headboards and frames, dining tables, end table, coffee tables, desks, and bookcases. They are located in a district of many other "mom and pop" stores. They have been operating for over 40 years.

You must create the mission statement for Fairmont Furniture.

Never use the word goals in your mission statement. Goals are separate from your mission.

You must start your mission statement with the following words...

Fairmont Furniture provides.......

Put your name at the top of this assignment. Submit under the assignment tool. (20 points) Name the document your Blackboard VISTA ID and mission. For example, my document would be named tdalton1_mission. Save as a .rtf, .txt, .doc, or .docx format.
