Engineer work to solve a number of techincal problem, ultimately to address the needs of the society and to improve our quality of our lives. As engineering & technology advances a number of other related issues arise in virtually all areas of our society.
Therefore to acquire a better understanding of the world we live in, it is vital that engineers must not only be proficient in the mathematics, science, and technologies of their field, BUT must also be aware of the effect of technology use and engineering on the social, cultural. economic, political, ethical, and environmental aspects of our lives.
Assignment Details
Conduct an internet search to find & read at tides that address contemporary issues (which could he social, technological, political, environmental, or ethical) in Way's world that discuss the effect/impact of engineering and technology use and also highlight the concerns which makes them particularly controversial in the present times.
1) Each student must submit a ten page, well-written (according to the technical report writing format with proper grammar and punctuation & a reference section) short summary of the searched articles on one but different contemporary issue
2) Assignment Format: First give an introduction to the issue being presented and then, specifically, for each chosen issue, state:
a. The root causes (related to the practices/features of the particular engineering/technology).
b. The effects/impacts/consequences (short term as well as long term, which can be ethical, environmental, political, or societal), and
c. The possible mitigating solutions/strategies and their limitations.
3) At the end of each issue presented, provide a one paragraph summary of your analysis on all the implications (ethical. environmental, political. or societal) of the chosen contemporary issue. in the context of Saudi Arabia.
Also discuss how you would solve the issue if you were a practicing tagigest, critically assessing the quality. validity, and accuracy of the
information gathered from the internet.
