1. Finish any necessary reading or research as background

4. Write the introduction

- Open up the discussion.
- Introduce the ideas.
- Name any texts to be discussed, if appropriate.
- Engage the reader.

5. Write the main body

- Ensure each point is given a new paragraph.
- Use words or phrases at the start of each paragraph that will indicate to the reader how it relates to the previous paragraph, eg, 'however',
‘in addition', ‘nevertheless', ‘moreover'.
- Start each paragraph with a topic sentence that clearly links the paragraph to the rest of the subject.
- Provide supporting evidence for each point that you make.
- Revisit the ideas you made, and express it in different ways if possible to emphasize how the question is being addressed.

6. Write the conclusion

- Summaries the main ideas.
- Finish with an interesting or thought-provoking, but relevant, comment.

7. Edit the draft

- Check for spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Delete any sections that are not particularly relevant.
- Change vocabulary to improve expression.
- Present a clean, neat copy.

8. Harvard referencing

- Reference Lists are located at the end of the work and display full citations for sources used in the assignment.
- Here is an example of a full citation for a book found in a Harvard

Reference list:

- Fitzgerald, F. (2004). The great Gatsby. New York: Scribner.
- Generally, Harvard Reference List citations follow this format:
- Last name, First Initial. (Year published). Title. City: Publisher, Page(s).
- Start your reference list on a new page.
- Type the word References, centered, at the top of the page.
- Double space all references.

Margins: Set margins of 2.54 cm on all sides (top, bottom, left, right).

Font size and type: Use a 16-point Times New Roman

Line spacing: Double-space throughout the paper.

Alignment: Align the text flush left, creating uneven right margin.

Paragraph indentation: Indent the first line of each paragraph 5-7 spaces

Pagination: Use a header to insert page numbers in the upper right hand corner on every page of your assignment.

Headings: Headings are used to organize the document

Main headings: Centered, boldface, uppercase and lowercase heading (title case)

Subheadings: Flush left, boldface, uppercase and lowercase heading (title case)
