Assignment: Modelling a found Object

BRIEF

This assessment requires you to faithfully re-create a real-world object in 3D virtual environment. Throughout the course of the assessment you will be required to: find an appropriate physical real-work object, model it in 3D, apply basic materials and lighting, and render the final finished object.

You will present your object as 3 different 3D renders/images that have been carefully curated to illustrate your chosen object in the best possible light.

You are also required to document your process throughout the entirety of the assessment and include said documentation in your assignment submission.

OBJECT SELECTION

It is a requirement of this assessment that you choose an actual physical object that you own or have access to which you can hold and move and analyse to assist your modelling process. It's also important that you choose an object that is not too difficult, or not difficult enough to pose a meaningful modelling challenge. Consequently, it is a requirement of this assessment that your tutor approves your chosen object before you commence modelling it.

You should bring your suggested object into class for approval by no later than week 3.

Small items at home, miscellaneous trinkets, souvenirs, children's toys, small collectables - these kinds of objects usually make good subjects for this assessment. Phones, USB flash drives and car-keys are less original ideas that are unlikely to be approved.

DELIVERABLES
Submissions for this assignment should contain the following (three items):

(a) A Maya project folder with scene files

(b) Three JPEG renders in a 2-page PDF document This should include:
(i) 1 full-page portrait image
(ii) 2 half-page landscape images, on a single page

The full-page image should show the whole object clearly and cleanly. The two smaller images should aim to be more artistic and illustrate the image in creative and interesting ways.

(c) Documentation as a PDF document
Your documentation should contain references, screenshots, analysis, and meaning descriptions of you technical decision making process with the aim of illustrating your process for this assignment. Further information in what your documentation should contain will be provided by your tutor and available on Moodle.
