Assignment: Job Application Essay Project

Imagine that you are applying for your dream job. The job application asks you to write a short essay about why they should hire you for this job. Specifically, they want to know:

1. How have your past decisions and actions prepared you to succeed in this job?
2. What actions are you taking in the present to prepare you to succeed at this job?
3. What actions do you plan to take in the future to ensure that you will succeed at this job?

To structure your essay, you should include:

• An introductory paragraph reminding the reader what job you are applying for (company and job title; ex: Google, computer engineer), and what skills/traits you think are important to being successful at this job. Describe your work ethic, personality, and strengths.

• A paragraph describing at least 4 things that you have already done (using all of the 4 past tenses).

• A paragraph describing at least 4 things that you are doing (using all of the 4 present tenses).

• A paragraph describing at least 4 things that you are going to do (using all of the 4 future tenses).

• A closing paragraph summarizing why you should get the job.

***Remember, when you change the time, you should create a new paragraph!***

Additionally, use the project organizer on the back of this sheet to make sure that you have at least one thing to talk about in each of the 12 tenses, and that you have included all of the other grammatical items that you will be graded on (gerunds, infinitives, non-count nouns, quantifiers and modifiers).
