Assignment Introduction:

Welcome to Studies in Literature and to your first essay! This paper will consist of an analytical perspective on something which you enjoy - your favorite genre. An analytical essay responds to and examines ideas based on a central theme. This idea must be supported by evidence, which may include examples. Quotes and paraphrases may be used but always need to be explained, in order that the essay is not simply just a list of quotes. A key component of the essay is that it must show a clear connection of the evidence to the central idea. In this case you will be describing your favorite genre in three different ways using a short five paragraph essay. Follow the structure below to complete the essay:

This paper will need to be typed in APA Format, the basics of which are:

Size 12 font; Times New Roman; double-spaced (between the lines.)

Structure:

1. Introduction paragraph 1 Here you should first introduce the topic. Then, you should briefly outline what you will be dealing with in each of your three body paragraphs.

2. Body paragraph 2 Here you will talk about the history and origins of your genre - example: where and when was this genre first used?

3. Body paragraph 3 Here you will talk about how this came to be your favorite genre - since when, and why it came to be your favorite genre.

4. Body paragraph 4 Then, you will talk about how this genre features in your life today - the books / magazines / blogs you read; the movies you choose to see; the games you play on gaming platforms and any other interests you have that include this genre.

5. Concluding paragraph 5 Finally, you will summarize the three main points you made in your body. Briefly finish with a statement or even a rhetorical question or quotation to keep your reader thinking even after your essay is over
