Assignment: INITIATIVE

Showing initiative in the workplace is a prime reason why people receive promotions, get raises, and in the case of interns, receive offers for full-time employment.

NOTE: The 1 complaint received from employers is that interns do not show initiative.

1a. Describe 2-3 actions that you have taken in your internship that demonstrated your initiative.

Have you offered to do something beyond your normal duties?

Have you figured out a better way to do a common task?

How did your supervisor or coworkers respond to your effort?

1b. If you have no opportunity to show initiative yourself, describe instead the performance of a co-worker or supervisor in your workplace who has shown initiative and gives extra effort. Provide details of situations in which you have observed that person's initiative?

2. Discuss how the organization and your supervisor use motivators in the workplace.

Are they extrinsic or intrinsic?

3. Detail the best piece of advice you received this week. Who was the employee? What was the advice?
