Assignment: Foundation Level Essay

This assessment is an essay writing task. The following gives you more information about the task.

- Investigate two possible solutions to low life expectancy in the developing world.
- What are the main problems associated with using plastic bags? Identify solutions to reduce these problems.
- What are the main problems associated with using mobile phones in the academic classroom? Identify some solutions.
- Discuss the reasons why many governments are promoting the use of bicycles instead of cars as a means of personal transport.
- Examine the effects of the rise in social networking on young people, and investigate possible future consequences?

In your essay, you should refer to a number of sources and can include your own ideas on this topic (you must use the SS1 course book to support your essay, but must also include two other relevant academic sources as well). Therefore, you must use a minimum of 3 academic sources to support your ideas.

You must write in paragraphs and make sure you provide in-text citations for all the sources you refer to in your essay and a list of references at the end of your essay. Please refer to the KICL referencing guide for guidance which is based on the Harvard referencing system.

The essay should be 750 words.

What you will be assessed on:

• The relevance of your ideas to the essay task

• The structure of your essay (how well you planned your essay and how well you link your ideas within and between paragraphs)

• How well you support your ideas using sources and how accurate your in-text referencing and final references are (using the Harvard referencing system as explained in the KICL referencing guide).

• How appropriate and accurate your use of English language is, especially register and style.

Written Work Submission Guidelines

The first page of your assignment must state the following:

• Module code and title (eg. FC005: Introduction to Social Sciences)
• Type of assignment (eg. portfolio essay / final report)
• Assignment question (eg. Critically evaluate....)
• Word Count
• Your tutor's name
• Your Student number (not your name)

You must also do the following:

• Each page must have a header with the module code, module title and your student number
• All of the work must be word processed
• The line spacing must be 2 (double)
• The font type must be Arial
• The font size must be 12
• The pages must be numbered in the bottom right corner
• You must include a final reference list using the Harvard System which is outlined in the college referencing guide. Please ask your tutor if you do not have a copy of this.

Marks will be deducted if you fail to follow the written work submission guidelines.
