(It is important to approach this assignment in the shoes of the probation officer (roll play as a probation officer so to speak). APA format, college level writing skills required (focus on vocabulary and proper grammar).

As a probation officer, you have been asked by the principle of CHS high school to present information during the weekly assembly on chemical addiction and treatment options.

Explain the effects of substance addiction on adolescents and young adults. For example, what are the behaviors like? What is the thought process? What physical changes occur? Do the addicts develop new friends and lose old ones? Is their employment negatively impacted?

• Provide an overview of the effects of substance abuse on adolescents from the following perspectives:

o behaviorally
o psychologically
o physically
o socially

• Explain the importance of treatment, and detail the different types of treatment options available for substance addiction.
• Explain the benefits of inpatient treatment and a twelve-step program.

Assignment 2

The director of the new adult community chemical addictions rehab center has asked you to research 2 current models of addiction to use in the center. These models of addiction could be based on, but are not limited to: the disease (born this way), cognitive and behavioral, or psychoanalytic (rage-induced) models of addiction.

The director would like you to take the lead at the next planning meeting to propose to the group the 2 models that you have selected. Include the following in a paper of 1-2 pages:

• Explain each of the models that you have selected. Provide a detailed overview of each model.
• Detail how each model can be used to address a current issue related to addictions.
• Provide a rationale for why it will be beneficial to use each model in the center. Give a minimum of 2 advantages for each model.
• Consider any potential disadvantages of each model that you chose.
