This is a discussion about APA workshop, about 200 words.

Each academic area of study has a particular style for documenting the ideas of other scholars. The standards of formatting document you've been using is from the American Psychological Association (APA). This is the preferred style in the social sciences. As you've noticed, there is a strong emphasis on the publication date.

1. Why do you think there is such an emphasis on the date?

2. As you work on revising your Course Project, what questions do you have about how to incorporate standard APA format and documentation guidelines into your essay?

3. Are there any sources you are having a hard time documenting?

4. Any questions about your reference entries?

1ST Student:

Hi Professor and Class,

Coates (2013) stated that "A citation serves several functions. First,it is a way to avoid the charge of plagiarism. Second, it is to  attribute and acknowledge the use of another's work. And third, it serves to support the author's arguments and lend credibility to the text." It is very important to have an updated article because we do not want to be citing references that are out dated and not in current practice. Researchers are constantly researching new ideas, and new technologies. In order to keep up with the new  inventions, we have to research current inventions, and not depend on out dated materials that are obsolete.

The more I learn about APA, the more I realized the validity in using APA citations to substantiate my points. I have found this method beneficial in presenting my arguments. Most of the times I can find citations that can support my claims for and against an Idea. Finding a research document that I could use in my paper, was what I did not really enjoy. Sometimes It is time consuming, and I have to go through different data bases to find a related document that I can use. It was easy to cite documents from the Library, because my search was narrowed down, but not all that easy in different web sits.

According to Paine( 2013) "American Psychological Association (APA), documentation style, is a method for keeping track of your sources, while letting readers know where your found support for your claims"( Paine,2013). It is important to have your sources documented it leads to better credibility for your paper and also gives you the availability of increased resources on your topic. I think there is such a strong emphasis on the date because it is important to utilize up to date sources for your research. I have utilized APA format in my project and I have not had a hard time documenting any of the sources that I used, since they were all scholarly articles.

Sometime I will have a hard time documenting a website and will have to familiarize myself and utilize my APA format book that I always keep handy. I am a bit better with the APA format since this is my 6th class in this journey. Believe me when I say I am no expert on APA, but I continue to educate myself.
