Assignment 1 :

For this assignment, you will conduct some academic research on project management and Six Sigma applications. You may use your textbook as a resource, but you must also use at least one additional outside resource.

It is highly recommended that you use the ECPI electronic library since the sources in the library are valid and credible resources. You will use your research to formulate your own plan and proposal.

Your report must cover the following points but not necessarily in this order. Please do not limit your responses to this bulleted list. Your report must be in essay format.

•Explain why project proposals, including Six Sigma projects, must support an organization's mission and goals.

•How are project management skills important in the Six Sigma process?

•Project plans must provide details about how the project will be accomplished. Select six of these details and describe and discuss their importance.

•Consider a project that you are working or might work on either at work or here at school. Using information in the textbook and your resource(s) as a guide, write a project proposal.

Be sure to include in your proposal why your proposal should be accepted.

Gantt charts, Program Evaluation, Review Technique (PERT) charts, and Critical Path Methods (CPM) help project managers with the scheduling process. Gantt charts list and track each activity and task associated with a project.

The PERT chart is an extension of the Gantt chart, as it coordinates and synchronizes many of the tasks (Six Sigma, p. 69). CPM adds the costs involved for each phase or unit of time in the project activities.

Assignment 2 :

For this lab assignment, you will construct a Gantt chart. Using Microsoft Project will make this task easier to complete, but if you do not have MS Project, you can prepare this chart in Word or Excel. You will also identify any contingency plans that might be needed for potential problems or changes that might arise.

•Consider a project that you are working on or might work on either at work or here at school (If you are enrolled in the BUS328 course, then you should consider using the same project you are using in the Review Assignment).

•Create a Gantt chart for this project.Your Gantt chart must consist of at least four phases.

Each phase must contain at least six different activities.

•Identify areas that may require more resources and might suffer cost overruns.

•Identify at least three areas where a change or a problem might occur in this project. Develop a contingency plan for this potential change or problem.

This assignment will be graded according to the rubric below.

•If you use any outside resource, including your textbook, cite this outside resource (including interviews) with APA double citation. This means to cite within your text and provide the full source citation at the end of your paper.
