Group Project Case Study -

Each group of students will be assigned one case to study in depth. This group will prepare both a written report and a comprehensive power point class presentation.

How to prepare a case study report -

The purpose of the case studies is to help improve your critical analysis skills at identifying and resolving business problems. They also provide a way for you to learn and apply some technical skills that will prove useful in managing operations. You may find the case studies a bit perplexing at first because the real issues will often be disguised by other symptoms that mask the root problem or problems. Your task is to determine the critical issues that must be addressed and to propose recommendations to improve or solve them.

Each analysis should tie in as many aspects of those cases to the textbook/class lecture and other cases as possible. The key to successful case analyses is integration. While there is no ideal outline for the case study analysis. a few suggestions are provided below. You may include figures to support discussion points. Often these analyses contain information gleaned from outside sources (e.g. the Internet), which should be included in your references.

Title Page - Case Titles, Team members

Executive Summary -

• A one or two paragraph summary of your recommended course of action for the company.
• Include important supporting analyses and/or justifications.

Introduction - Discussion of Company (case) Background: include information about industry, key conrgie financial performance as appropriate. Don't simply recite the information in the case study.

Problem Definition - Identify the key issues that need to be addressed. Think critically and delve into the root causes of the problems.

Analysis (the bulk of the write up) -

Integration: Find four to eight points of interest in the case around which the integration will focus.

Examine the operational issues and be sure to tell the reader in reasonable detail how the integration relates. Don't simply say "This is similar to the experiences of Proctor & Gamble." Tell us how this is similar to the experiences of Proctor & Gamble. Also, it is required that you use some citation support for your statements. At least, 5 articles relevant to the topic of your case must be cited. You case have articles from Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, The journal of operations management, The academy of management journal.

If the case assignment included questions to be addressed by you, then answer those questions using the same analytical method described above.

Recommendation - Summarize the case situation and make a recommendation. Support your recommendation with data from the case, additional research, and any analyses you have conducted.

References - Supporting materials: As you are using journal articles and other sources be sure to include their source (or citation). In other words, do not simply provide a list of references; make sure you indicate where they were used in your analysis. If found on the Internet, provide the URL; however, you should limit your Internet sources, otherwise they tend to be an "overkill".
