Assignment :  WRITTEN REPORT - Merchandising Plan

Students are to work in pairs.

In Fashion Business, one of the key planning areas includes merchandise planning. Good merchandise planning ensures that there is the right merchandise in the right quantities and with the right price to meet consumers' purchase requirements.

This is only possible with good knowledge and understanding of the retail and market situations and also an understanding of the consumers' buying behavior.

In merchandising planning - decisions have to be made in range and assortment planning, sales projections, sourcing, margins and costing.
With more new retail brands entering the market, the Company that you are working in, has decided to introduce 2 new brands to strengthen the company's portfolio.

You have been tasked to introduce one new fashion apparel brand/label into the company's portfolio. You are to prepare a Merchandise Plan proposal for the new brand to be distributed in both Brick & Mortar store and also online platform.

Your proposal /submission - in a written report of 1000-1200 words, to include the following key sections:

1. Identifying a new brand/product

- Selection of the brand

- Identify a location for the first store

- type of store

2. Assortment Plan

- Identify main merchandise classes for the new store

- Explain the selection factors for assortment plan

- Provide a complete merchandise/assortment distribution plan in %

- Prepare a sample Stock List for a selected classification of merchandise

3. Sales Planning for the first year

- Project monthly sales$ for - average, high and low sales performance. You are required to explain and show how you arrived at the sales figures

- Present a 12 month sales projection table - include columns to indicate:

- AV, H , L sales performance

- events, promotion activities

- Planned expenses, profit, reductions, stock turnover. (these figures will be used to calculate the initial Mark Up)

Sourcing Destinations and Decisions

- Include at least 2 sourcing destinations each :

(a) apparel manufacturering for the brand

(b) trade shows

- Prepare costing sheets for at least 2 designs
