As a part of the essay, we are supposed to formulate a question or hypothesis and write an essay based on it, hence my question is: Alcohol use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adolescents is linked to family problems like exposure to maternal substance use before birth, environmental drinking in childhood and disrupted families.

This essay is focused on contemporary patterns of alcohol or other drug use among Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and associated factors. You may choose to focus on a pattern of substance of interest to you, such as alcohol, cannabis, methamphetamine or volatile solvents. The task of the essay is to explore the relationship between these patterns of substance use and relevant individual and contextual factors. You may also explore the inter-relationships of these factors and harmful consequences of use. You are required to develop an essay question or hypothesis in consultation with the teaching staff. The question should be designed to test a specific proposition. An important consideration is the availability of evidence relating to the question. We recommend a focused essay question, i.e. focusing on one type of substance, and specific individual or contextual factors. Ensure that your essay question is clearly written at the beginning of your assignment. Please contact the teaching staff no later than Tuesday 6th of March to receive feedback on your proposed topic and question. The assessment should also include details of your literature search strategy. Include this as a separate section before the beginning of your essay. It may be presented as a short paragraph or as a series of bullet points. Ensure that you outline the databases accessed, search string/ terms used, any boolean operators used, and the number of relevant results found.
