Assignment : Analytical Task In this assignment

Students are required to reflect on the issues of international security and terrorism in the Middle East.

They will be required to select an issue, incident, or organisation to analyse within the context of one Middle Eastern country. (SYRIA)

Length and/or format: 1,200 words

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to get students to think critically about how security and terrorism impacts and shapes Middle Eastern politics.

Learning outcomes assessed: i, iii, v

Assessment criteria: Students will be assessed for their capacity to:

i) demonstrate an understanding of the historical, cultural and economic factors that have shaped the states of the Middle East;

ii) (ii) analyse at least one issue of political influence within the region;

iii) (iii) critically reflect on the importance of the Middle East to contemporary debates in international relations and security
