For this written assignment, you are the Coding Supervisor at Rasmussen Hospital and Clinics. Your staff consists of five coders who code inpatient, outpatient, and the professional fees for a variety of physicians in a variety of specialties.

Recently the number of patient encounters has increased causing your coders to not meet the required turnaround time for their coding duties. After much research, you have decided to turn to CAC (Computer Assisted Coding) to help meet your goals.

Hospitals have reported that CAC has increased coder productivity by more than 20 percent, decreased coder overtime by as much as 80 percent, and decreased external audit fees as much as 50 percent. Cassidy, B. (2013) "Ten More Questions for CAC Vendors"

Based on your research, you will be implementing CAC for routine radiology encounters in six months.

Professional Practice Activity - Diversity in the Workplace

For the first time in history, five distinct generations - Matures/Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, and Gen Z - are employed sided by side in the workplace. Each generation has distinct attitudes, behaviors, expectations, habits and motivational buttons. At work, generational differences can affect everything, including recruiting, building teams, dealing with change, motivating, managing, and maintaining and increasing productivity. Effective management of this multigenerational workforce is vital to longevity and success.
For this assignment:

1. Review the following policy regarding diversity in the workplace.

2. Create an Age Diversity Training Program- You will create a training program for your employees highlighting the five generations. Describe each generation including the core values, attitudes, and expectations related to the workplace and management. Be sure to point out key differences between people in each of the generations such as communication preferences and learning styles. Include in your training program the following.
o An agenda for your training session including date, time, room, and topics to be covered
o Power Point Presentation

3. Summary- Propose how you as a supervisor or manager will help to bridge the generational divide and effectively manage a diverse workplace with your employees. Think of how generational differences in communication styles might affect misunderstandings, high employee turnover, difficulty in attracting employees and gaining employee commitment.
Use at least 3 different sources and APA style for documenting your sources.

Professional Practice Activity - Contract Review

Healthcare organizations enter into written contracts every day. Typically, the HIM professional secures contracts for transcription, record copying, imaging, record storage, coding, other outsourcing, or consulting services. Although contracts can prevent confusion and conflict, they can also bind the inattentive signer to conditions that are difficult or impossible to meet.

Your CEO and CFO are in the process of reviewing contracts between outside vendors and your organization. They have asked you to review the current contract you have with ABC Coding Services. Your focus will be to identify any areas which may mitigate risk to the organization.

As you read the contract, think about the requirements you have for your own staff within the HIM department: Confidentiality standards and requirements, disclosure or redisclosure of patient information, productivity standards, HIPAA privacy rule (42 CFR, Part 160-164)

Include the following.
- Review the current contract with ABC Coding Services: ABC Coding Services Contract.
- Identify five (5) areas you feel might pose a risk to the organization.
- Determine how you would change the risk areas addressed in the contract.
