Assignment - Job Satisfaction and Motivation
Background: The human relations movement sparked the idea that management needed to be more sensitive and respectful to employees. It broke the image that people are primarily motivated by money; a shift from the economic person to the social person model. It includes the idea that people perform better when they are engaged in work that suits their capabilities. (The idea here is to potentially match the person's best intelligences, personality, and overall qualities with his or her job responsibilities). Fortune magazine puts out a list for the 100 best companies to work. To complete the assignment you may choose among any of the top 100 companies listed. (Suggestion: choose a company in the industry that you might like to work, currently work, or find interesting).
Assignment objectives: Understanding job satisfaction and accurate application of motivational theory/theories.
What to do: Review Fortune magazine's the top 100 places to work for 2017 and select a company that you would like to work for. Click on the company and review the information provided and then visit the company's Web site for additional information on how they demonstrate human relations.
1. Title your work with the name of your selected company and number ranking.
2. In a developed, specific, and detailed three paragraph essay explain how and why you think having a job at your selected company will make you satisfied. Note required length and be sure to cite your work here.
3. Based on your response (from number 2 above) write an additional three paragraph essay that accurately, clearly, and specifically identifies and defines at least one motivational theory from the textbook, and explain how it directly applies to your posted reasoning of satisfaction. Note required length and be sure to cite your work here.
4. All references are listed in proper APA format in-text and in-full at the end. Everyone will at least be citing from both the textbook and the Fortune site, if not the company's Web site and others as well. Be sure this is done both in-text and in full at the end.
