Task Description
In this assignment, we would like you to locate and research scholarly references that will support your analysis and recommendations in Assignment. You will need to identify five references that will help you to address the case study issues. You will present your references and justifications on their relevance, with proper referencing techniques. This is an individual assignment.
Case Study: Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA)
Between 2012 and 2015, the CBA breached the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter- Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF) over 53,000 times. Imagine you are the CIO of CBA. What will you do to prevent breaches such as these from happening again?
Case Study Questions
1. Explain why the CBA rolled out the Intelligent Deposit Machines (IDMs). Discuss the business benefits that the IDMs provide. Identify the competitive strategies that the CBA were following and any relevant competitive forces.
2. Explain how the AML/CTF breaches occurred. Your explanation should be at a level of detail that uses the concepts and terminology from this unit.
3. Discuss the application of four CoBIT components that are most relevant to the AML/CTF breaches.
4. Discuss any deficiencies in aspects such as hardware, software, people, processes and strategy that contributed to the breaches.
5. It is conceivable that the IDM development team followed an Agile development methodology (itnews.com 2014). Assuming they did, discuss how an Agile development methodology might have contributed to the breaches. Identify strategies that could be employed to help prevent such breaches despite the use of an Agile development methodology.
6. Discuss if, and if so, how a data warehouse could have been used to mitigate the breaches.
Selection of Five References
Identify five unique references that will help you to answer the Case Study Questions in Assignment 2. Your references will be assessed for appropriateness on aspects such as currency, coverage, relevance, authority and objectivity. Your articles must be available in full text through the CQUni Library databases.
Currency: The references must be current, that is, within the last five years.
Relevance: You will need to explain how the paper is relevant to the case study. In previous terms, some people made the mistake of including very theoretical papers which were difficult to apply to the case study.
Authority: Your proposed references must be academic (scholarly) references from peer reviewed journals or conference proceedings which are available in full text from the CQUni Library databases.
Write a report that includes the following sections:
- Title page including the assignment title, a suitable report title, your name and student number, unit code and name, term and year, name of your tutor, due date, and the date submitted.
- Introduction: state the purpose of the report, and outline the content of the report.
- Annotated bibliography with each entry clearly indicating to which Case Study Question it refers. Write a justification for each reference selected, describing how each reference is relevant to the Case Study. Include at least one in-text reference with each justification. Assignment 1 is not a formal literature review.
Other report components such as Executive Summary, Abstract, Discussion, Recommendations, Conclusions and a References List are NOT required for Assignment.
