Aim

This assessment is based on the same scenario used in Assessment 1, i.e. movie rental business.

In this assessment, you will take on a more strategic role for VideoChamp.

- Explain the importance of business intelligence; as well as the use of sensitivity analysis and pivot tables in providing more effective support in decision making

- Establish the importance of supply chain management in attaining competitive advantage.

You are NOT required to demonstrate MS Excel skills but you will be expected to demonstrate skills in highlighting with examples how the tools can assist in decision making. You are expected to use Blockbuster as a case study to establish the importance of supply chain to VideoChamp.

The assessment is to be done by each individual student on their own. Discussion on concepts and expectations on the assessment can be done with teacher, but the deliverables must be individually done.

Students found with submissions that have duplicate sections or plagiarised from the Internet will be disqualified, and will receive NIL marks. There will be no second submission allowed. Students are also expected to complete the assessment by the deadline given, else penalties per unit outline will apply.

You do not need to have successfully completed assessment one in order to undertake assessment two. Like all units you study, incomplete assessments often result in a steeper learning curve for later assessments. Therefore any requests for a solution to assessment one is not necessary and will not be granted.

Background
Recap: VideoChamp is a movie rental company in Australia. It has only 1 outlet in Doncaster suburb in Melbourne. Customers have to travel to the store outlet to rent videos. Although many rental companies have closed down their store outlets which includes VideoEzy, VideoChamp business is still profitable, despite an obvious decline in the movie rental industry.

VideoChamp has managed to survive in a rapidly declining industry due to loyal clientele. However, there is no certainty in this, as their sales have declined, even though it has been a small decline. They are looking to you, their management consultant to help develop good strategies for their business.

To complete this task successfully, students need to engage in research. Sources such as Newspaper/ journal articles, websites, and newspaper articles will be relevant to gather information. (Do not use books)

This section should be used to emphasize importance of business intelligence to VideoChamp by
- Discuss the importance of business intelligence; as well as the use of sensitivity analysis and pivot tables to assist in making effective decisions
- Discuss the use of Pivot Tables to assist in making effective decisions

Supply Chain Management
Using Blockbuster as the case study. Examine its failure in the context of supply chain management(Supply Chain Management ). Use this case study as a means of establishing the importance ofSupply Chain Management to VideoChamp.

The assessment requires you to apply the concepts you have learnt from INF109 in the analysis and argument about VideoChamp. Therefore, pure definitions from the recommended textbook or lecture material should not be used. Explain the concepts in your own words (paraphrase) and at the same time making reference to the material which you referred to. Quotations will only be given minimal marks.
