A customer drives a Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 L Petrol (2002 GLXI) into your workshop and has done 120000Kms. Uses a little water but never/doesn't over heat and runs fine. There a milky oil residue under the oil cap and in the oil dipstick. Your mechanic checks the vehicle and finds that the head gasket is blown.

Candidate is then required to estimate cost of subcontractor work, estimate type and cost of parts and materials according to industry and enterprise pricing standards. In doing so. candidate will document final estimate to repair, maintain and modify a vehicle.

Scenario
A customer has got a BA Ford Falcon and complaints that it makes a squealing noise and steering wheel starts shaking while applying the brakes and also, the brake warning light is ON. You have diagnosed the vehicle braking system and discovered that its front brake pads are worn to excess and it needs to replace them. Also, the front brake discs need to be re machined.

1. How will you estimate the cost of repair time?

Using the scenario information supplied, the candidate will determine components contributing to overhead costs. Candidate is then required to calculate overhead costs to be attributed to the work in accordance with commercial and enterprise procedures.

Candidate is then required to calculate total job cost, including overheads and mark-up percentages in accordance with direct with enterprise procedures. In doing so, candidate will calculate total service cost, note potential quotation variations and record cost calculations to maintain a vehicle.

A customer drives a Holden commodore V6 3.8 L Petrol (2001 VX) into your workshop and asks for quotation to do the following jobs:

- Transmission service
