Assessment - Research Assignment

Choose one of the scholarly research topics below, addressing the line of enquiry in an essay format. You are expected to draw on poor reviewed journal papers and academic texts in order to critically review what is known about the topic you choose, based on published empirical research or other trustworthy scholarly or conceptual sources.

Alternatively, you may negotiate a topic with the lecturer that is relevant to your program or working context at least a month before the due date of the assignment. Your negotiated topic must be relevant to the course goals and the lecturer will need to be satisfied that sufficient literature exists to support your scholarly research.

Topics

Your reference list is to be included in responding to the question. An extensive reference list that has relevant applications to the arguments in the text and one that brings good quality research and scholarly work to understand the subject matter is encouraged.

1. Compare the work of cultural theorists in relation to the work they contributed to understanding a specific national, cultural context.

2. How might cultural conceptions of time influence organisational practices and individual behaviour at work? Use the literature to demonstrate your response.

3. How might national culture influence the causes of conflict in culturally diverse workplaces and how parties negotiate and respond to conflict situations?

4. Review academic literature concerned with intercultural trust as it pertains to organisational settings and suggest where researchers need to focus their attention in future work to address any gaps in the literature.

5. Do managers operating in international contexts need to be aware of spiritual diversity? Respond to the question by structuring a rationale for your response and an argument that is rooted in the literature.

6. Review the literature about how national culture influences the display and perception of emotions in the workplace and explore the implications for management whilst noting any areas in this line of enquiry where further development seems to be required.

7. Given the literature on cultural intelligence make an assessment of your own, providing evidence to support your assumptions.

You are expected to use at least 15 trustworthy references from peer reviewed journals or academic texts. Do not use material from websites.

You may write ten percent less or more than 3000 words. That is don't write less than 2700 words or more than 3300 words.
